Ben Cruachan from Ben Lora with Loch Etive between The Pass of Brander shrouded in mist Looking over Loch Linnhe towards Glensanda, from Ben Lora

These pictures were all taken on top of Ben Lora, which at a height of 1000` has commanding views over Loch Etive towards Ben Cruachan. In the centre photograph you will see The Pass of Brander which is almost hidden in with mist. The village of Taynuilt lies in the bottom left corner of this picture
The photo on the right is looking across Loch Linnhe towards Glensanda.

Ben Lora is a favourite forest walk for us and is easily accessible from the village of Benderloch, which is approx. 7 miles from Oban.

If you would like to take a "Virtual Walk" up Ben Lora, and enjoy some beautiful photographs of the local scenery (without the effort of leaving your home)

McCaigs tower from the Railway Pier A view over Oban Bay from McCaigs Tower

Oban Bay is dominated by McCaigs Tower. This landmark was built by a local banker called John McCaig between 1897 and 1900, as a memorial to his family and also to provide employment for the local unemployed stonemasons. It was based on the Coliseum in Rome but unfortunately McCaig was forced to abandon the idea prior to completion - hence the name - "McCaigs Folly" Trish took the photo on the left from outside her shop, which is on the Railway (or South) Pier, and the other photo is taken from the Tower looking over Oban Bay and the Cathedral.
